Established
in 1965 by Dr. James E. Morgan and Dr. Robert Schaffer, Morgan Schaffer
develops a standard analytical technique for the extraction and analysis of oil
degradation by-products dissolved in transformer oil (Dissolved Gas Analysis).
The value of the test becomes rapidly recognized by the electrical community
which starts using it on a regular basis for the detection of incipient faults
in HV and EHV transformers.
1965 - 1990
Morgan
Schaffer establishes itself as pioneers and experts in the field of analysis of
dielectric fluids. With continued involvement of its founders in ASTM and other
committees, significant contribution is made to standardize the analytical
techniques used in the field of oil testing. During that period, the company
adds oil quality tests to its main offer (Dissolved Gas Analysis) in order to
offer the complete range of oil testing services required by the industry.
1991 - 2000
Morgan
Schaffer expands into the development and manufacture of analytical instruments
for the on-site and on-line measurement of dissolved fault gases. These
activities, undertaken via a wholly owned subsidiary (Morgan Schaffer Systems),
allow Morgan Schaffer to expand its market outside of Canada. During
this 10-year period, the financial structure of the company is modified to
ensure a smooth transition toward a larger, world-class, oriented company.
2001 - 2003
MSI
makes significant investments to improve its analytical equipment, processes
and sales/support structures. It is thought that a tough North American market
for oil testing will lead to rationalizations and fierce competition. During
this period, MSI innovates with the development of a DGA Oil Standard (True
North), which allows oil-testing laboratories to calibrate their entire
analytical process, thus positioning the company even better as a leader in the
field of oil testing.
2004 - 2006
Emphasis
is put on strengthening the basis for growth: the ISO/IEC 17025 Quality
Management System is implemented in the laboratory; the management team then
undertakes to develop the first 5-year (2005-2010) strategic plan of the
corporation; R&D teams, both in the laboratory and in MSS, are expanded in
order to deepen the pool of knowledge of the corporation while improving the
reliability and quality of existing services and products. These activities,
along with moving of the operations to a new address in LaSalle, QC
confirm the increasing ability of the corporation to support a growing base of
very large clients both for laboratory services and gas monitoring equipment.
2007 - 2008
In light of a growing worldwide market for transformer condition
monitoring, Morgan Schaffer keeps investing in the development of precise and
accurate solutions for its clients. Measurement reliability and world class
support will remain our main objectives for years to come.
